The surrogacy journey is an extraordinary medical, emotional, and social experience. Alongside dealing with medical procedures and legal frameworks, intended parents undergo a life-changing process that combines anticipation, excitement, worry, and uncertainty – from the moment of signing the agreement until birth and beyond. As part of the service, the broad perspective on the complexity of the process, and the holistic support provided by the Tammuz family, intended parents participate in unique parenting preparation workshops offered free of charge, designed to prepare them for the most exciting moment of their lives in the best way possible.
The workshops are conducted by leading professionals – psychologists, parenting coaches, educational consultants, emergency medical teams, infant development instructors, and others – and are carefully built to provide tailored support for every stage of the journey.
“The workshops were developed at Tammuz out of a real need of intended parents – to strengthen them emotionally, prepare them practically, and give them a sense of partnership in the journey,” says Tamar Ozer, VP of Customer Service at Tammuz Surrogacy. “For us, it’s a mission, not only to accompany them in the best possible way until birth but also to ensure that the first step into parenthood begins safely, calmly, and consciously.”
In the first session, held before pregnancy, intended parents receive tools from the field of positive psychology to cope with uncertainty, anxiety, and stress. These tools enable them to build emotional resilience and the ability to face challenges already at the initial stage. The surrogacy journey often brings situations that are hard to control – medical procedures abroad, long waiting periods, and unexpected developments. In this session, guided by a lecturer and researcher in the field of positive psychology, parents learn how to maintain control and family and couple stability even when the road ahead is uncertain.
In the second stage, once pregnancy is achieved, intended parents join homogeneous groups according to gestational weeks, where sessions are held on various topics, including:
- Practical knowledge on coping with surrogacy pregnancies – fantasy vs. reality, preparation, and dilemmas, guided by a parenting coach and educational consultant.
- First aid and infant CPR course – one of the main concerns of new parents is how to respond in emergencies. This workshop, Led by emergency medical teams, provides lifesaving tools for dealing with life-threatening situations such as choking, unconsciousness, and bleeding – as well as daily issues like burns, high fever, or insect bites.
- Parenting from the very first step – experiential sessions guided by an infant development instructor, focusing on the first months of life, covering topics such as understanding normal development and how a baby learns about the world, responding to crying and promoting healthy sleep, coping with colic, feeding, bathing, tummy time, correct use of carriers and other accessories, and more.
- Practical parental guidance before and after birth – a detailed session held before birth, guided by Tammuz’s client managers (according to program). The meeting prepares parents for technical needs – travel to the destination, accommodations, required equipment, and the bureaucracy expected before and after birth.
- Coming home – after returning to Israel with the babies, an additional personal and emotional meeting is held with an infant consultant at the parents’ home. The meeting includes practical guidance and training with accessories (carriers, loungers, etc.) and hands-on answers to topics like sleep, crying, nutrition, and daily needs.
(In each destination, the workshop content will be adapted according to the local needs).
“We are proud to offer this support package to all Tammuz clients, free of charge, out of the belief that it is an inseparable part of the surrogacy journey,” Tamar adds. “We are constantly working on creating new content and adjusting the workshops to intended parents at different stages.”
